With the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season well underway with eight Day-1 fixtures already decided, the management of the top flight league has announced additional measures to help in improving refereeing, and forestalling sharp practices.
To this end, the management of the NPFL and the Referees' Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have issued a directive to the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) to notify all elite referees in their fold to ensure that henceforth, preliminary match reports has to be sent out, within hours of the end of the matches, they officiated in.
A statement from the NRA Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Chukwudi on this issue, noted that the directive which has been expressly sanctioned by President of the Association, Mallam Sanni Zubairu, was a fallout of the first day match activities, across the seven match venues.
"Please be reminded that once you finish your match, you must send an immediate report before midnight of the match-day, before [sending] the more detailed report later"; Ejimofor noted.
The widely circulated statement urged the elite referees to take the directive seriously, and send the interim reports to: 1. Chairman of the NFF Referees Committee. 2. Secretary of the NFF Referees Committee, and 3. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NPFL; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
