The semi-finals line-up and pairings of the 17th CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, holding in Egypt, are now complete, following the emergence of the Gambia and Tunisia, on Friday.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria and Cub Teranga Lions of Senegal booked their places in the last four, as well as the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia, on Thursday and were on Friday joined by the pair of Gambia and Tunisia.
The Under-20 Scorpions of Gambia and the Junior Carthage Eagles of Tunisia advanced after negotiating their quarterfinal matches in contrasting fashion.
Adama Bojang scored a hat-trick for Gambia as they romped to an emphatic 5-0 victory over Shinning Stars of South Sudan, at the El Hodoud Stadium; to also qualify for the Under-20 World Cup.
Defensive duo Moses Jarju and Mahmud Bajo were also on the scores-sheet for the two-time bronze medalists, who will next face the Flying Eagles of Nigeria; record seven time champions at this level, for a place in the final.
Nigeria squeezed into the last four, with a hard fought 1-0 defeat of the Hippos of Uganda, whose defender, Ibrahim Juma conceded an own goal 30 minutes into the match.
The other semi-final pits the Cub Teranga Lions of Senegal who won their game against the Under-20 Cheetahs of Benin 1-0 on Thursday; and the Junior Carthage Eagles of Tunisia who edged out Congo Brazzaville 5-4 on penalties, after their last eight tie ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, at the Cairo International Stadium.
Both semi-final fixtures are scheduled for Monday, March 6, 2023.
