With Rivers United clinching the 2021/2022 NPFL title, veteran goalkeeper of the team Theophilus Afelokhai has by extension won his 7th Nigerian League title as a player.
Theophilus Afelokhai on his official social media handle expressed his gratitude to GOD for attaining the feat of being crowned league champion with Rivers United for the first time in the club's history.
Afelokhai, one of the longest serving goalkeeper in the league wrote "I have won the NPFL 7 times, I won four titles with Kano Pillars, two with Enyimba Int'l and now with Rivers United.
Record and history will certainly remember Theophilus Afelokhai’s enviable feat as he will go down as one of the most decorated players in NPFL, with the most NPFL trophies won .
Afelokhai has kept goal on the continent with the three teams he has played for in the NPFL. He joined Kano Pillars in 2004 from NNL side Buffalo Football Club of Kano, before switching to Enyimba after a number of years captaining the Kano side to three consecutive league titles, back to back and back.
