Segun Otusanya Upbeat on His FIFA U20 World Cup Chances, After Penning a Deal to Join FK Haugesund

Flying Eagles youngster, Segun Otusanya has joined Norwegian first division side. He was one of the very last players dropped by Coach Ladan Bosso prior to Nigeria depature to Morocco enroute Egypt for the 2023 CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, held last month.


He was the highest goal scorer of the team, during their friendly matches in the bud up to the tournament in Egypt.


The tall lanky teenager, reputed for his clinical finishing in front of goal, has in addition to celebrating his new contract, talked about his ambition to make the Flying Eagles final roster for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.


"Signing for FK Haugesund FC is an amazing achievement, but above that it is an opportunity for me to further sharpen my prowess as an offensive player, while helping out in both the midfield and defense, with a view to earning my place in the World Cup squad", he said.


The 18-year-old Otusanya Joined FK Haugesund ahead of the start of the upcoming season, from Stars Builders Academy in Nigeria.


Details of the deal he penned are still sketchy, but Sporting Director of the club, Eirik Opedalon confirmed it is a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy.


In a statement on their official website: FK Haugesund noted that they are very happy to sign Segun Otusanya. "He is young and with a lot of talent. We are looking forward to exploring his talent and hopefully developing him to a successful footballer, in the coming years".


FK Haugesund finished 10th in the Norwegian top flight last term.


Nigerian footballers to have donned the colours of Haugesund, includes Super Eagles assistant captain William Troost-Ekong.


FK Haugesund will open their campaign in the new Eliteserien League season on Monday April 10 with a trip to newly promoted side SK Brann.
