The Promising Star: Promise Akinpelu

Promise Akinpelu has signed with FC Tulsa. The 19 years old Nigerian- Canadian Striker has been signed to a USL Academy contract ahead of the 2021 season. He is playing in the senior team. The team plays in second tier league of MLS, with the hope of gaining promotion to the MLS.


Akinpelu, a 19 year old Canadian, hails from Brampton, Ontario and was a member of Toronto FC’s Academy from 2012-2015. Following his time in the Academy system for TFC, Akinpelu played for a local club, Vaughan Azzurri, that competes in League1 Ontario. While with Vaughan, Akinpelu was a part of two League1 Ontario Championship teams (2016, 2018) and two L1 Cup winners (2016, 2018). Prior to joining FC Tulsa, Akinpelu played in the Treća HNL, the Croatian third division, for NK Trnje.


The tall skillful striker is capable of defending, intercepting the ball due to positional awareness, intelligence and long legs. Akinpelu is able to beat defenders on a dribble, another Kanu Nwankwo in the making.


Promise Akinpelu is a player to look out for. He’s an embodiment of three great players skills, the likes of Zlatan, Drogba and Kanu Nwankwo.
