One might wonder where the explosive and combative midfielder, Oghenekaro Peter Etebo is, currently. Etebo began his professional career at Warri Wolves, where he rose to prominence in the domestic scene by netting a hat-trick, in what was a fantastic season in the NPFL. His talent was further recognized at the 2016 Olympic Games under the management of Samson Siasia, where he scored four goals in one game and became the toast of the world.
Etebo's impressive performances earned him moves to several high-profile clubs, including Stoke City, Levante, and Las Palmas. His meteoric rise, however, was halted by a series of injuries that slowed down his career progression. Despite these setbacks, he remained a vital part of the Nigerian national team and was named in Nigeria's 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Etebo started all three of Nigeria's group matches, contributing to their victory over Iceland, although the team was eventually eliminated after losses to Argentina and Croatia.
Even after recovering from several injuries, Etebo struggled to maintain consistent fitness. Reports suggest he made some questionable career decisions, such as turning down offers from certain clubs. On September 15, 2022, Etebo signed with Greek Super League side Aris on a permanent deal.
However, his tenure there was short-lived, and he struggled to regain his form.
Now that the transfer window is open, the big question is whether Oghenekaro Etebo can secure a career-relaunching move this summer. Given his past performances and undeniable talent, many fans and football analysts are hopeful that Etebo can find a new club that will allow him to revive his career and showcase his abilities once again on the global stage.
